Husband and I have a food game we like to play. We call it I Dare You To Eat That.


We are adventurous eaters. That's how we became accidental foodies. As newlyweds Husband and I explored our little out of the way international grocery stores hoping to save money on our food bills. While we were doing that, we branched out from the simple meat and potatoes type food we both grew up with and purchased a few interesting and new to us ingredients that are now staples.

Miss 9 of 10 once asked me in all of her little girl childlike innocence, "You and Uncle eat weird food, don't you?"

My husband and I are big fans of cooking food with fire (although you might call it grilling.) Grilling is a quick and easy way to put dinner on the table in the summer without heating up the kitchen. It is also one of the best ways to feed a crowd and please everyone. Growing up in a home where the most exotic spices used were salt and pepper, I can’t get over how you can make the same combination of protein, vegetables, and whole grain taste completely different every day of the week just by switching up the spices in the dish.

Sometimes the simplest things awe me. Sad, I know.

Mexican, Latino, and Spanish spice combinations are one of our favorites. We go through taco seasoning like crazy because we get the flavor we want by opening one spice bottle instead of four or five.

I have to pace myself on the physical spice bottle opening exertion. I don’t want to get carpel tunnel or anything.
