Cashew Ricotta, Cream, Mozzarella, and Garlic Cheese Recipe

Tzatziki Sauce Recipe (Cucumber Salad Dressing)

One of my favorite things about eating gyros is it comes topped with tzatziki sauce. Oh yum, yum, yummy, yum, yum, yum!

What is tzatziki (pronounced tat-zee-key) sauce? Tzatziki  (also spelled tzadziki and tzatskiki) is a Greek sauce that is often served on or with Greek and Middle Eastern food – everything from meat dishes like gyros to a dipping sauce served with vegetables dishes like falafel.

Tzatziki sauce is crazy simple and inexpensive to make (yet looks oh so fancy which this Lazy Budget Chef appreciates,) is healthier than a sour cream based dips, and is not limited to Greek and Middle Eastern food. Some ways you can use tzatziki sauce are:

  •  You can use tzatziki sauce to top burgers or grilled chicken 
  • You can use   tzatziki sauce as a vegetable or cracker dip
  • You can use tzatziki sauce as a salad dressing
  • You can use tzatziki sauce as a dipping sauce for your favorite meat or vegetable
  • You are only limited by your imagination!

 

Let’s cook!

 

You will need the following ingredients:

1 cup (or 8 ounce container) of plain yogurt – This recipe will work with both dairy plain yogurt and plain plant based yogurt. I usually use plain soy yogurt. You can buy plain non dairy yogurt here.

1 cucumber

 

1 tablespoon of olive oil – I buy olive oil by the gallon here


1 tablespoon of either fresh or dried dill weed – I buy my dried dill weed here


3 cloves of minced garlic – or a little less or a little more depending upon the size of the clove. As always, measure the garlic with your heat and you’ll be fine.

 
¼ cup of lemon juice (or more if you like it tart) – you can get lemon juice here

Step by Step How to Make this Recipe:

 

1. Peel, remove the seeds, and chop the  cucumber.

 

2. Put the yogurt, chopped cucumber, olive oil, dill, garlic, and lemon juice into a blender.


3. Use the blender to thoroughly mix the ingredients together.


4. Pour it on and enjoy!
