16 Mason Jar Lid DIYs

I have a mason jar addiction. It started innocently enough. I had a cupboard full of empty mason jars after we ate the vegetables I canned from our tiny garden. The cupboard holding the empty canning jars in within arms reach of the kitchen counter while the cupboard holding the actual food storage containers is four steps to my left.

It was only a matter of time until my empty mason jar collection started to hold more than home canned food. Four steps to the left is a long row to hoe.

Canning jars also fill in for drinking glasses when we have a party. I hate buying one use disposable plastic cups! My guests think I'm being my quirky trendy self instead of being too cheap and too lazy to buy a bunch of reusable party cups and find a place to store them in my tiny house.

I can live with that.

Besides, drinks served in mason jars look cute. See?

Apparently I am not the only one who finds mason jar lid hacks useful. I found a ton of unusual and useful mason jar lids while I was researching Tattler reusable canning lids (I'm not sure if they are for a newbie canner like me. Have you tried them? Are they easy to seal like regular mason jar lids?)

I fell down the Internet rabbit hole searching for mason jar drinking lids, pencil sharpener lids, lamp canning jar lids you name it. I'm surprised at what cool and useful things I found.

16 Drinking, Storing, Lighting, and Otherwise Useful Mason Jar Lids

Cuppow Mason Jar Travel Mug Lid (get more info here) makes any mason jar into a travel mug for hot or cold beverages. They have BPA free silicone Cuppows to fit both regular and wide mouth canning jars. Also, Cuppow sounds like something you see in a comic book when the hero punches the villain.

The EIO Glass Kids Cup  (get more info here) says it is an alternative to a sippy cup because it doesn't have a valve top that forces kids to suck the drink out of the cup like a bottle. The top is spill resistant BPA free silicone and fits on a jelly jar to make it a mason jar kid's cup although they say all ages appreciate the grippable silicone jar sleeve that comes with the lids.

I spill drinks on myself like it is my super power. I am so talented that I can spill and wear my drink even when I use a straw. That is why I use a reusable glass straw when I drink out of a mason jar in the first place. CUP-POW - wet shirt!

I think they made the Ecojarz Drink Top (get more info here) just for me. They have stainless steel and BPA free silicone versions. You can choose to drink from the just the jar drinking lid or use the Ecojarz lid with the reusable stainless steel straw that comes with it.

The Daisy Cutout Metal Straw Holder Lids for Mason Jars  (get more info here) come in both silver and gold and are just plain cute. The cutout straw top makes me think of pink lemonade. I don't know why.

You need to supply your own straws with the Daisy top. Most of the moms on Pinterest pair the lids with striped paper straws (You can find them here) to avoid plastic straws for kid's parties.

If I didn't have glass straws I would go with a stainless steel reusable straw (you can find them here) because  paper straws turned to mush when I used them as a kid.

Oh heck, drinking pink lemonade out of a mason jar is fine, but using this Mason Jar Cocktail Shaker (get more info here ) to make mason jar mai tais might be just a little bit better. TGIF!

I store my brown sugar in a mason jar to keep it from clumping into a rock. I tried making a DIY pouring spout and it was a FAIL. The BPA free  reCAP Mason Jar Pour Cap (get more info here) is my solution. The lid snaps on either wide mouth or regular canning jars.

In two sizes for twice the pouring fun!

If you make syrups the Magnuson mason jar pouring spout (get more info here) might be a better option for you. The Maguson is a one piece cap and spout that fits regular size canning jars.

Spouty!

My school kid desk lamp was a pickle jar filled with seashells we gathered on vacation. You can make something similar with the Mason Jar Lamp Kit  (get more info here.) The mason jar lamp fits regular size jars. The galvanized lid adds country charm.

My favorite local ice cream shop, uses canning jar vases from a florist to hold flowers on the tables.  You can get the same country rustic look that keeps the flowers from flopping all over the jar vase if you use this  Mason Jar Chicken Wire Flower Frog Lid (get more info here.)

I use a mason jar to grow alfalfa sprouts on my kitchen counter. Yep, there a lid for that too. I like this Stainless steel sprouting Lid (get more info here) because it won't rust like the canning jar rings I use with repurposed mesh to grow mason jar sprouts.
