How to Make Vodka Watermelon - Everything You Need to Know Guide!

I wanted to make a vodka watermelon. Some people call it infuse a watermelon. Some people charge a watermelon. Whatever you it call it, it is the same thing. A 21 years and older watermelon filled with booze with a 50-50 chance of either coming out perfect or not infusing at all. I’m not trying to scare you out of a spiked vodka watermelon recipe. I’m letting you know up front, if your vodka watermelon didn’t work, keep reading this post to learn how to fix a drunken watermelon that won't absorb vodka on the first go round. The Replacement Anchor Hocking Glass Storage Container Lid Hack They Don’t Want You to Know!

As my BPA free plastic food storage containers cracked, stained, or leaked beyond practical use, I replaced them with glass Pyrex and Anchor Hocking food storage containers even though I was concerned about smashing them to bits because dropping things is my superpower.

For many years we put our trusty glass storage containers to heavy use.  I’m happy to say I haven’t broken one. Eventually the plastic lids on the Anchor Hocking containers began to crack and split while the Pyrex glass storage container lids did not.

You can buy replacement plastic lids from Anchor Hocking (aff) but for the price of a new lid, I can buy several new Anchor Hocking containers from a closeout place like Big Lots.Which starts the flimsy container lid cycle all over again.

But truthfully, the real reason why I haven't bought replacement lids (trying to be less wasteful and all that jazz) is I kept forgetting to buy replacement lids from Anchor Hocking.

Pin this post for reference and be sure to share it with your friends!

On a trip to check out the Pretending to Be an Outlet Mall, I remembered to take my cracked Anchor Hocking storage container lids with me to see if, as I suspected, the plastic lids to my Anchor Hocking glass storage containers are the same size as the replacement glass storage container lids for sale at the Pyrex outlet store.

And they are! Take a look.

Both companies swear up and down the lids can't be switched
but they are the same size!

Now I have the best of both worlds. Locally made Anchor Hocking glass food containers with super sturdy Pyrex plastic lids. Yay! I feel like I just married one of the Hatfield's to one of the McCoy's.

The Pyrex replacement lids cost much less and are in my opinion more durable than the Anchor Hocking replacement lids. The price of the lids from the Pyrex Outlet Store are a little higher than  s ordering replacement Pyrex glass container replacement lids from Amazon (especially since I get free shipping with Amazon Prime) (aff) which is to be expected since most of the stores in outlet malls aren’t the bargain hunter's paradise they used to be.

In the future I’ll probably order replacement storage container lids from Amazon but it’s nice to know my theory was correct with an in person trip to the store. (And my Husband DID get a deal on his spendy running shoes so the trip was really worth it.)

Oh my goodness, you have me laughing out loud at the "pretending to be an outlet mall"! I remember years ago knowing someone who worked at a Coach "outlet" store and she told me that they make product specifically for the outlets! This is a great tip, I think I have a collection of glass containers with no lids left! I do have some great square containers with really sturdy snap on lids from Ikea, though. Thank you so much for sharing at Celebrate Your Story!

I have only Pyrex but it was good to know they fit Anchor as well. I had to replace a few lids for my pyrex last year. I did get them from Amazon but it is a little tricky ordering them because they sell in groups - not sure I even found a single lid and if I did it was more expensive than buying a set. Anyway, I have extras. My lids have been holding up well though, I really only had a couple crack. Funny about the Outlet thing - so true. Vera Bradley has stuff made strictly for Outlet too.

I should not have to buy replacement lids for my anchor glassware. They make them cheap so you will buy replacements!I WONT PURCHACE ANY MORE ANCHOR. Sticking to Pyrex!

Thank you for this - on the pyrex replacement lid descriptions on amazon, they even go as far as to lie: "Will NOT fit Anchor Hocking Products". But while searching for solutions, I found these on amazon: stretchy silicone lids food cover. The thing is, with either company's lids I can't guarantee that it won't leak. My mother in law goes as far as sealing with plastic food wrap first THEN using the lids. With these silicone stretchy covers, it just might be an even better world! :)

Doesn't anyone else shop church basement sales or garage sales? I pick up the Pyrex lids everytime I see them. I've never paid more than a dime for one. Usually the seller or the church group is more than happy to unload a grouping of them for a buck. (These lids are viewed as just random junk taking up space). Sizes that don't match up to bowls or containers that I have I donate to the thrift store.

I once got a dozen random lids at a garage sale. I think they were free because the young woman having the sale was tired of looking at them and viewed them as useless without any containers. I have a set of Martha Stewart glass bowls that I got at a local church. I thought I checked to see if the set had all of the lids, but when I got home one was missing. The missing size was in that garage sale grouping. Score! I've never had one of the Pyrex lids crack, but I'm prepared with enough backstock if they do.

Those Pyrex bowls are ideal for soup, stew, ratatouille, etc. Ladle some into the bowl, cover it, then easy microwave reheat lunch. The rest of the batch goes into those bowls and then into the freezer. Cook once / eat all week. Love those Pyrex bowls.

BTW: I've never thought of breaking as my superpower, but I'm sure I can match you break for break. I'm a breaker, so I don't want high end crystal or specialty glass items in my life. They wouldn't last long enough to get used or enjoyed. My drinking glasses are all acrylic. I actually prefer them. Safe, easy to clean, easy to stack for storage, and they come in more colors and sizes than genuine glass. I replaced glass drinking glasses as they broke over the years with sets found from church sales. Acrylic isn't completely indestructible - it does eventually craze, crack, and need replacement; but in the meantime it is a great and safe alternative to glass.

P.S.: I've never been to an outlet mall. Not worth my time or gas money.

I recently discovered that the lid from the Panko bread crumbs from Dollar Tree fit my anchor hocking custard cups perfectly. 99 cents and I get panko bread crumbs and a free lid.
Helpful to know the Anchor Hocking lids are even lower quality than Pyrex. I saw their locking lids at a kitchen store and was contemplating them as a replacement for the always-leaky and now cracking/splitting lids that came with my Pyrex storage containers. I was really hoping there'd be better lid out there. I'm so loathe to pay good money for the same poorly-sealing, brittle lid that came wirh with my Pyrex tupperware :-/
