Quick and Easy Whole Wheat Irish Soda Bread Recipe

Coffee and whole wheat toast are one of my breakfast mainstays. St. Patrick’s Day is coming up so why not whip up a loaf of Irish Soda Bread one of the greatest gifts this Lazy Budget Chef (who can’t proof bread to save her life) has ever known – the bread machine. As luck would have it I have more whole wheat flour than white and more raisins than normal because I went to a bulk bin without a container and bought more raisin than I thought. No problem. I’ll make a Irish style whole wheat bread featuring those those happy raisins sitting in my kitchen. I am using the bread machine to make and proof the dough for this recipe and baking the bread in the oven because I want the round shape of a traditional Irish style bread. You can bake it that way or you can bake the whole wheat Irish bread from start to finish in a bread machine. It will taste just the same although I personally think baking bread in the bread maker makes it a little more dense than when I bake bread machine do

Start Natural Energy Drink and Defense Tea Review

When I want a caffeinated slap in the head to wake me up I reach for coffee or tea. Super sugar and caffeine laden energy drinks taste like liquid pixie stix to me – ew!

So how did I end up reviewing a energy drink?

Curiosity.

I like try new foods. So sue me!

Revolucion Start  is a natural energy drink containing servings of fruit and vegetables. Hey – that’s new. The few energy drinks I tried are a ton of sugar and super changed soda ingredients.

The caffeine in Start comes from green tea. I like green tea. Why not give it a whirl? At best it’s tasty. At worst it’s liquid pixie stix that tears up my stomach like Red Bull.

Revolucion also sent samples of  Defense  a canned tea chock full of anti oxidants.

In a funny twist of fate, Husband and I didn’t agree on which Revolucion drink we liked best.

Since Defense is made with grape, strawberry, acai, pomegranate, blackberry, apple, and blueberry extracts I expected Defense to be sweet like Snapple. It has more of a green tea taste than a sweet flavored fruit tea taste. I like my flavored teas on the sweet side and was disappointed Defense wasn’t a sweet tea. However, this is exactly it Defense is Husband’s favorite.

Start contains two - five servings of fruit and vegetables.  Start is gluten free and is like drinking four cups of green tea.  While Start is sweet, Husband and I were relieved Start does not taste like liquid pixie stix. Start tastes more like a regular fruit juice blend than a super sweet Red Bull, Rockstar, or Monster. Unlike those other energy drinks, Start did not tear up my stomach and give me heartburn. If I hadn’t known I was drinking an energy drink, I would have sworn I was drinking a regular fruit juice drink. For this reason, Start is my favorite. Husband preferred Defense.

I can see Husband and I packing a few can of both Start and Defense in the cooler for our next road trip as an alternative to soda.
