How to Sharpen a Disposable Razor Blade the Easy Way!

Most days I use this exact women’s electric razor to shave my legs. (Disclosure I am including affiliate links for your convenience.) It’s great for dry shaving touchups and being reusable is a great way to reduce our household waste. My electric shaver has definitely paid for itself in a very short time period.

Still, every once and awhile I’ll use a disposable razor because I still have a bunch from when I first bought my electric razor years ago. I can get 6 months to almost a year’s worth of use from a disposable razor that stays sharp and clean. Which is pretty good considering I like the multi blade disposable razors when I use one which are the most expensive. I think they shave better than the double blade razors and single blade safety razors are right out – ow!

How do I keep our disposable razor cartridge blade sharp and long lasting? Easy! We clean, dry, and sharpen the disposable razor blade after every use.

How to Sharpen a Cartridge Razor Blade

Many people use the sharpening a disposable razor with a pair of denim jeans hack. I’m afraid that using a pair of jeans to sharpen our razors day in and out will wear out our jeans at the expense of sharpening our razors. The last time I checked, replacing denim is more expensive that replacing my husband’s multi blade cartridge  razor blades. Thanks to a reader tip, I tried this exact razor blade sharpener to sharpen a disposable razor and it worked! Our jeans are saved – hurray!

You can extend the life of disposable razors by cleaning and sharpening the blades after each use.

Here’s how.

You will need:

Disposable razor – one blade to a bazillion blade, cartridge or all in one piece it doesn’t matter. Unfortunately this will not work with safety razors.

Razor sharpener – you can find several types of disposable razor blade sharpeners here that work the same as the one I am using in this tutorial.

Water

Towel

Step by Step How to Do it Tutorial

1. Clean the razor blade( s) with running water if necessary.

2.  Put your razor blade on/in (depending upon the style of your disposable razor sharpener) the cartridge blade sharpener and run the razor blade over the sharpener several times (I usually go with 10 times because it is a nice round number) at a 45 degree angle under running water.

Yes. It is really that easy!

3. Turn off the water and remove the razor from the razor blade sharpener.

4. Pat the razor blade dry with a towel, otherwise they will rust and dull. Be careful not to cut yourself of the towel on the sharpened blades!
