Quick and Easy DIY Car Air Freshener Hack

I use a vent clip air freshener in my car keep the inside of my car from stinking up the joint in between cleanings. My personal go-to is t his Fabreeze car vent air freshener , but I also love the scent of these Yankee Candle car vent air fresheners . Depending on availability and sales, I tend to switch between the two.( Disclosure: I am including affiliate links for your convenience .) I stumbled upon a killer deal on Yankee Candle Sidekick refills. Without hesitation, I snatched them up, even though I didn't have the matching holder (the Sidekick air freshener looks like this ). My brilliant plan was to simply stick the refill in the car vent, similar to the air freshener sticks that look like this . It sorta worked but mostly didn’t.

Rum Ball Recipe

As much as I like baking cookies and delicious Christmas desserts, I save it for parties and pot lucks.  That way I have the time to make something extra special.

Bawhahahahaha!

This is Lazy Budget Chef land. I want to make something special and labor intensive but don’t have the time. Instead I make a quick and easy no bake cookie recipe that everyone thinks took forever to make but is really a low effort high wow factor recipe because I made it with with rum.

Yum!

Please eat responsibly. The alcohol doesn’t cook out of this recipe.

This recipe is a little different from my normal make it all from scratch recipes. It uses store bought vanilla wafer cookies. Of course, if you like you can bake the cookies from scratch to use in this recipe.

I  give myself a holiday 80/20 Rule dispensation and go with premade cookies. Also, Husband needed the open to make roasted cauliflower for the pot luck party. There’s that.

No Bake Rum or Bourbon Balls

You can use any type of rum your little heart desires in this recipe. I’m using regular Bacardi rum this time around because that’s what is sitting at the front of the shelf in the pantry. Spiced rum adds a nice extra flavor paired with the chocolate in the rum balls if you have it.

Since I am spilling all of my holiday baking secrets today, if you aren't a fan of rum replace it with bourbon and you have my no bake bourbon ball cookie recipe.

You will need:

1 box of vanilla wafer cookies (12 ounces)
1 cup of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
1/2 cup rum (this is more of a guideline than a hard and fast rule. Sometimes rum pours have a way of getting away from precise measurements. Oops.)
1 1/2 tablespoons of honey
1 small dish of powdered sugar

Make it:

1. Crush and crumble the vanilla wafer cookies into crumbs by any means necessary: food processor, blender, wrapped in a towel or zipper bag and a rolling pin, beaten to a crumby pulp by an angry mob – whatever. Well, except maybe that last one. It sounds painful.

2. Combine the crushed cookie crumbs, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder in a mixing bowl. Make sure you break up any lumps. No one wants a lumpy rum ball!

3. Mix the rum and honey into the dry ingredients.

Tip: If an extra splash (or five) of rum makes your mixture too runny to roll into a cookie ball (it happens,) add more vanilla wafer cookie crumbs to the batter until it is a consistency that will hold a ball shape.

4. Roll the batter into a ball shape with your hands.

5. Dredge and cover  the rum ball in a separate dish of powdered sugar.

6. This recipe makes approximately three dozen rum balls depending upon how large or small you make each cookies.
