Top 23 Tailgating Supplies for the Perfect Football Tailgate Party

Fall means football and football means it is time to tailgate before, during, and after the game! Like many parts of the country, tailgating in Columbus is an art form. It is always fun to walk the parking lots before an Ohio State game to people watch. Buckeye fans go all out! It isn’t unusual to see a motor home painted with an elaborate Ohio State scarlet and gry paint job that people use just for tailgating. That's why Tailgater Magazine ranked Ohio State number 8 on its Top 20 Tailgate Colleges in 2014. Another reason why I think tailgating so popular here is that get tickets to an OSU game is hard because the games sell out quickly. On the rare chance tickets are available they cost crazy money! Apple Cider Carmel Cookies

I pinned The Cooking Photographer’s Carmel Stuffed AppleCider cookie recipe to my Pinterest recipe board because it looks amazing. Like most things I pin here on Pinterest for inspiration, I didn’t think I’d make them. I just like to look at them.

I made an exception for these little caramel stuffed gems.

Soon after a bag of  these Werthers Original Chewy Caramels landed in my shopping cart. (disclosure: I am including affiliate links for your convince.)

It’s fate I tell you! Fate!

I made the cookies.

I made a few substitutions to The Cooking Photographers’ original recipe. I didn’t have nor did I want to buy powdered apple cider mix. Instead I whirred 1 tablespoon of all spice and cloves, 2 cinnamon sticks and ¼ cup of brown sugar in the blender and added them to the batter.

I used both the traditional Werther’s Original Chewy Caramels and the Carmel Chocolates in the center of the cookies because I’m a wild woman.

I used whole wheat flour instead of white to see what it would do. I like the extra nutty taste the wheat flour give the cookies. Paired with the caramel it tastes like fall.

They smell like heaven when baking.

And taste divine!

Carmel?! OMG these sound delicious. I'm going to try them and I'm also going to try your substitutions. I love the flavor of whole wheat in baked goods although I know sometimes it is a little too dense for some recipes. But this one sounds awesome!
Those sound delicious! I am always looking for things to bake with my kids and they love caramel so these sound perfect!

Great minds think alike! I baked the same cookies! I do like the substitutions you've made. I'd be interested in trying the cookies with whole wheat flour to make them a little healthier ;)
